Non-Modifiable Risk Factors

Non-modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are the risk factors that you cannot influence. The following is a list of the principal non-modifiable risk factors:

  • Ethnicity:  coronary heart disease is more common in South Asian communities. Stroke is more common in people of African Caribbean origin.
  • Genetic: You have a greater risk of cardiovascular disease if  your family has a history of cardiovascular disease.
  • Sex: men are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease at an earlier age than women.
  • Age: the older you are, the more likely you are to develop CVD.
