Rubella

This rash presents much like measles, but the spots do not merge to form large red areas. There are also no white spots in the mouth. It usually lasts about 3 days and during this time the child may run temperatures and have a runny nose, headache and sore throat. Although rubella generally does not cause serious complications in young children it is very dangerous for unborn babies. If you suspect that your child has rubella you should visit your GP so that it can be diagnosed.

If you are pregnant and suspect that you may have been in contact with rubella you should visit your GP so that your immunity levels can be checked.

Rubella, like measles is rare as it is vaccinated against in the primary immunisation programme.
