Functions of Vitamin B6:
- Connected to hormone balance and water retention in women.
- Wide variety of metabolic functions, especially in amino acid metabolism.
- In the central nervous system vitamin B6 supports production of GABA which is an amino acid that has been found to induce sleep and relaxation.
- Vitamin B6 is also required to convert tryptophan to serotonin (an important antidepressant neurotransmitter).
Uses of Vitamin B6:
- Treatment of premenstrual symptoms especially water retention (which can lead to breast soreness and emotional tension).
- May help reduce morning sickness during pregnancy.
- Can be used as a diuretic for those who retain fluids.
- May also be useful in stress conditions, fatigue, headaches, nervous disorders, anaemia, glucose control.
- May be helpful (in combination with magnesium) in calming hyperactive kids.
